Meet Dr. Burcu Bayirli, DDS, MS, PhD

Dr. Burcu Bayirli is an orthodontist trained at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington in the Departments of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, where she teaches dental students as well as orthodontic and pediatric dental residents.
Her focus in pediatric dentistry is early orthodontic treatment for young children. Dr. Bayirli also serves as the orthodontic clerkship director for dental students at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. She regularly lectures on complex orthodontic topics to orthodontic residents and conducts scientific research focused on public health orthodontics and the dentoskeletal effects of orthodontic appliances. She has authored numerous scientific articles and textbook chapters.
Personal Life
Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, Dr. Bayirli attended the American Academy for Girls before earning her dental degree. She moved to Michigan in 1993 to complete her orthodontic training, earning her MS and PhD degrees.
Drs. Bayirli and Riolo are married and have two daughters, Mina and Banu. In 2011, they relocated permanently to the Pacific Northwest, which they proudly call home.
Outside the office, Dr. Bayirli enjoys spending time with her family. She is an avid skier and loves exploring Seattle and Bellevue’s neighborhoods by bicycle.

Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics
Dr. Bayirli is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). Board certification is a voluntary and rigorous process that goes beyond the three years of specialty training required to become an orthodontist. Only about one-third of orthodontists in the United States achieve this distinction. Dr. Bayirli’s board certification reflects her commitment to providing the highest standard of orthodontic care.
