Moonray, Juell and Formlabs2 printers were available at the 2018 AAO workshops for the participants; each of the participants spend time with the printing software required to format dental arches on each of these printers.

Riolo Orthodontics uses the JUELL 3D-2 is one of the fastest 3D printers available for orthodontic practices today.

The JUELL 3D-2 is one of the fastest 3D printers available for orthodontic practices today. The Juell printer is capable of printing orthodontic models for complete clear aligner treatment in under 30 minutes without compromising resolution or accuracy. The Juell printer builds at speeds as fast as 36mm per hour with accuracy achieved by using enhanced UV/DLP/LED  technology and JUELL 3D Flash OC software to project an HD image with 1920 x 1080p resolution.  With the Juell printer we can print from an intra-oral or tabletop scanner using .stl, .obj, .3ds or .amf file formats. Cali and Doctor Riolo also presented a 2 hour staff lecture on 3D printing at the 2018 AAO meeting in Washington DC.  This lecture covered topics ranging from 3D printing technology to editing raw STL files and digital workflow associated with “In-House” clear aligners.  Cali also presented 3D printing applications associated with provisional tooth replacement.  On Sunday, Dr Riolo Presented his lingual orthodontic lecture for the doctors scientific program.  Dr. Riolo covered material related to custom orthodontic appliance and the impact these appliance can have to improve patient care.  Almost half of our patients at Riolo Orthodontic are treated using some sort of lingual appliance.  At Riolo orthodontics we use Incognito, Harmony and SureSmile systems to treat our adult patients so that no one knows they are even wearing braces!

Q&A Regarding Incognito Braces

Incognito Braces
Incognito Braces

Q: Will treatment using Incognito braces behind the teeth be as effective as conventional braces?

A: Custom made brackets are more efficient than standard stock brackets that are mass produced for the “average” person.  The standard prescription in the stock bracket is not ideal for any individual.  It is produced to be as close to the correct prescription for the greatest number of patients and thereby is correct for no single individual. Theoretically, custom lingual is more efficient especially in terms of treatment time and precision. The literature show this and I have noticed a difference clinically; that being said it is possible to get an excellent result with either product.Read more on Q&A Regarding Incognito Braces…

American Association of Orthodontists

Riolo Orthodontics spent much of the last week in San Francisco at the 2015 annual session of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO).   There were also meetings held before the start of the AAO such as the American Lingual Orthodontist Association (ALOA) and the Society of orthodontic Educators (SOE) both of which were attended by Drs. Riolo and Bayirli. Dr Riolo also participated in the annual session lecturing on braces behind the teeth “Lingual Orthodontics: An Essential Tool for the Orthodontic Specialist”.  Dr Riolo’s lecture discussed; why lingual orthodontics is an essential tool for the orthodontic specialist as well as why lingual orthodontics is hard.  He also showed examples from our practice in Seattle illustrating the points make in his lecture.

Dr. Bayirli moderated a lecture room on Tuesday from 1:00 to 4:30 themed “Ideas from around the World” many of these lectures dealt with issues associated with accelerated orthodontics.  The office participated in continuing education as a group and learned about emerging technology’s such a medical 3D printing which will allow us to increase precision when fabricating orthodontic appliances using our intra-oral scanner.  Orthodontic technology is rapidly changing and we pride ourselves on bring the latest advances to our patient in Seattle.  Through our efforts at the University of Washington and participation in both national and international meetings we work to use evidence based treatment to achieve the best possible treatment outcome for our patients.  We employ the latest digital technology to produce custom orthodontic treatment solutions for our patient such as Incognito custom braces behind the teeth, the SureSmile system when using braces on the front of the teeth and the Invisalign system when moving teeth with removable clear aligners.

We are looking forward to the next annual meeting in Orlando Fl. in May of 2016.
